Inter CEO Beppe Marotta confirms Piotr Zielinski move is close

CEO of Serie A league leaders Beppe Marotta has confirmed that Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski is close to joining the Nerazzurri.

Zielinski’s current deal at Napoli expires in the summer and he hasn’t renewed his stay. He was offered a chance to leave for Saudi Arabia in the summer, but he rejected the move despite Napoli having reached an agreement for the move.

But it seems as if Zielinski will join Inter on a free transfer in the summer and club CEO Marotta has confirmed that the move will go through, if everything goes right. He also confirmed that contact has been made with Napoli CEO Aurelio de Laurentiis to inform him about the approach.

Marotta told DAZN (via La Gazzetta dello Sport): “I spoke with De Laurentiis and informed him that we are testing the waters with Zielinski. Piero Ausilio is working and, if everything goes through, we will announce the move and weave him in for next year. It is part of those situations that the sports area must consider.”

Losing Zielinski on a free transfer will be a blow for Napoli, who could yet lose Victor Osimhen in the summer as he continues to be linked with a Premier League move. A renewal for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, though, is yet to take place.
