Italy midfielder Bryan Cristante has stated that the Azzurri deservedly lost to Switzerland and they deserve to go back home.
The Azzurri lost to Switzerland 2-0 and put in a poor showing when it was truly needed for Luciano Spallettiโs side, who made several changes in the knockout game and the manager has drawn a lot of criticism for his selections and substitutions as well. But on paper, the performance was poor and Italy couldnโt create much.
Cristante spoke to Sky Italia (via TMW) about the loss and he stated that the Azzurri deserved to lose and he stated that Switzerland beat them in every possible way.
โThere is little to save, they beat us physically and in terms of organization. It is too early to draw conclusions, we deservedly go home. Now we have to clear our heads and start again next year with a different attitude and energy.โ
On asked about whether Italy had no nerves to deal with the situation, he said: โYes, when you see that there is so much difference in organization and play, the energy also disappears. There is little to save as I said, we deservedly go home.โ
He also went on to question the desire of the side, which he believes was less than what the Swiss offered.
โThe desire was different, then when you canโt do things against a team that is so much better you try but you canโt, thatโs the explanation. We have to clear our heads and start again.โ
