Lazio chief Claudio Lotito on Maurizio Sarriโ€™s resignation: โ€œHe was betrayed by some peopleโ€

Lazio CEO Claudio Lotito has revealed that former manager Maurizio Sarri had resigned because he was betrayed by some people at the club.

Sarri has left Lazio already and he handed in a resignation two days ago. While Giovanni Martusciello will be in-charge for the upcoming game against Frosinone, Igor Tudor will likely be managing the side after that and a deal with the ex-Marseille boss has already been agreed.

Lotito spoke to TG1 (via LaLazioSiamoNoi) recently about Sarri and why he resigned. The Lazio CEO stated that the resignation was unexpected and it wasnโ€™t coming, but also stated that some people at the club let the former manager down.

โ€œSarriโ€™s farewell was not in the air. It was an unexpected thing, a bolt from the blue.ย I was in the Finance Commission and they asked me โ€œBut did you sack Sarri?โ€ย I told him no.ย He was a bit betrayed by some of the peopleโ€™s behaviour, there is something creeping within the group.ย ย

โ€œWhat if Iโ€™m talking about the team? Iโ€™m not referring to anything. A team that beats Bayern and then loses to Udinese and itโ€™s not just Udinese. Ask yourself a question and give yourself an answer. Now we continue until the end of the week with Martusciello, there is no deadline for now.โ€

There was also talk of Sarri not having a great relationship with Lotito and that it had broken down some weeks ago. He had also had issues with former sporting director Igli Tare and reports had talked about issues with players.
