Lazio director Mariano Fabiani brands Mason Greenwood a โ€˜mercenaryโ€™

Lazio director Mariano Fabiani has spoken about the clubโ€™s chase of Mason Greenwood and has described the Englishman as a mercenary.

Greenwood was a key target for Lazio some weeks ago but he didnโ€™t respond to the offer made, having taken time to respond. Marseille made a move for him and after a while, he sealed a move to Roberto de Zerbiโ€™s side, leaving Manchester United on a permanent transfer.

Fabiani recently (via TMW) spoke to the official Lazio microphones and he was asked about the state of affairs in the Biancocelesti transfer window. He was asked about Greenwood and he didnโ€™t have too many kind words to say about the Englishman, who is now a Marseille player.

โ€œWe wanted Greenwood last year, then there was a hitch with the player. You all know what Greenwoodโ€™s problem was. An agent this year approached us with the idea of โ€‹โ€‹Greenwood in Italy, we gave him a deadline, from there an auction was unleashed and I thought I could go up to a certain limit. We offered โ‚ฌ22 million pounds for 50% of the player, weโ€™re talking about โ‚ฌ26 million euros. He preferred to take another path and I say that the best deals are those that arenโ€™t made.โ€

He went on to state that Lazio only want players that like to be at the club and not mercenaries like Greenwood.

โ€œI want Rovella, Zaccagni, players who love the environment where they work. I donโ€™t want these mercenaries, itโ€™s lucky not to make certain deals. I could sell myself for โ‚ฌ50 thousand more but I have values โ€‹โ€‹that my parents passed on to me. If heโ€™s taken another path, we wish Greenwood the best of luck.โ€

Fabiani also went on to say that the club will not move for James Rodriguez, despite recent links with the club.
