Milan set to back away from Julen Lopetegui

Serie A giants Milan now seem set to back away from the potential signature of Julen Lopetegui, as they start to look for a new manager for next season.

Stefano Pioli’s future at the Rossoneri seems to be sealed, especially after the Europa League knockout at the hands of Roma. Milan seemed keen on the Spaniard and had made contact for him as well, but the club’s fans protested on social media under the tagline of ‘Nopetegui’.

Sky Italia state that Milan seem rather set to back away from pursuing the signature of Lopetegui and the option of hiring him has most definitely gone away.

Other names have now emerged in the saga and the leading ones are Paulo Fonseca and Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi, for whom no contact has been made yet. Other names are Mark van Bommel and Thiago Motta, with the Bologna boss more likely to join Juventus in the summer.
