Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski likely to start against Lazio despite conflict

Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski will end his eight year association with Napoli this summer and move to Serie A rivals Inter but he seems likely to start for the club against Lazio.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via CalcioNapoli24.it), the 29-year-old has told boss Walter Mazzarri, that he will not extend his current contract, which expires at the end of the current campaign. Zielinski’s future has been the subject of huge speculation since the start of the season and the pink journal reports that the player has sat down with his current boss to try to reach an understanding.

His decision has not been well received by the Napoli tifosi, but despite this, Mazzarri has stated that he intends to put him in his starting XI for Sunday’s difficult trip to the capital to face Lazio.

Zielinski arrived at Napoli in the summer of 2016 in a €16 million move from Udinese. His performances last season were key as the Partnopei lifted their first league title in 33 years. This season, the Polish international has found it hard to hold down a regular starting berth as rumours of an impending departure continue.
