OFFICIAL | Serie A set to have extra Champions League slot next season

The Serie A is now set to have an extra Champions League spot with it next season, following Fiorentina’s progress to the Conference League semi-finals.

La Viola couldn’t get past Viktoria Plzen in normal time despite a sending off, but two goals in extra time made sure that they reached the Conference League semi-final for the second time in a row, with Vincenzo Italiano now in his last season at the club.

But La Viola’s win has made sure that Italy will have five spots for the Champions League next season, meaning that Roma, who are at fifth right now, will also qualify for the the Champions League as of now.

The Giallorossi also beat Milan in the quarter-finals of the Europa League but that result has no bearing on the co-efficients. Atalanta did lose 1-0 to Liverpool in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals but progressed to the semi-finals by a 3-1 margin.
