Serie A champions Milan fell to a 2-1 win to newly promoted Parma and it could have been much worse.
The defeat means that Milan are yet to pick up their first win over new manager Paulo Fonseca, who impressed with his approach in pre-season but things havenโt quite clicked in the league season.
Goals from Dennis Man and Matteo Cancelieri helped Parma pick up a win in which they were devastating on the counter-attacking regularly.
After the loss, Fonseca spoke to DAZN about the loss and he said (via TMW): โThere were several problems, we didnโt have the ability to press a team like Parma. We did poorly, itโs impossible to win games like that when we defend like that. We didnโt defend as a team, we lost many duels, we always arrived late and left space for their counterattacks, wrong markings.
โI am always the main person responsible for what happens, there is a problem with the collective defensive attitude. We only look at the defenders, but they suffer a lot when there is no support. Itโs difficult to explain how Parma had so many opportunities.โ
The Portuguese has perhaps been quite accurate with his assessment as Milan were very exposed during the counter-attacks and Parma always had numerical advantages.
He also revealed that it is a combination of tactical and attitude flaws: โThere are many things, everything. This team has a general problem. With Torino we didnโt press high and we had problems; today we changed and there were other things that didnโt work. We recover the position and then we are passive. There is an SOS of energy, attitude.โ
