Rennes Arthur Theate on potential Serie A transfer: “We’ll see at the end of the season”

Rennes defender Arthur Theate has revealed that the Serie A is his favourite league but he is currently focused on finishing the season with the Ligue 1 side.

Rennes take on Milan in the playoff round of the Europa League later this week and Theate is a familiar face for the Rossoneri, who came up against the Belgian during his stint at Bologna. The defender has been linked with other clubs in Serie A over the last few weeks, with Napoli and Roma linked with the player.

The Partenopei had even launched a bid to sign him but the move didn’t go through. Roma were also looking at a defender and Theate was a target.

In a chat with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Theate spoke about his future and the links with Roma. He described Serie A to be his favourite league and didn’t rule out a return.

“[I spoke about a move to Roma] more with my friend Romelu, I spoke about it above all with Rennes. I’m happy here and focused on the end of the season. Of course, I’m pleased that people are talking about me in Serie A, my absolute favorite championship. We’ll see at the end season”.

Rennes have provided Theate the platform to impress, as the 23-year-old has played 18 times in Ligue 1 and has also played in the Europa League six times. Considering how well he has done, it won’t be a surprise to see him return to Serie A at some point in the future.
