Roma set to bid imminent farewell to Renato Sanches

Renato Sanches’ underwhelming stint in the colours of Roma is set to come to a close as early as next week.

That’s according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who has today provided an update on the future of the Portuguese international.

Midfielder Sanches of course put pen to paper on terms with José Mourinho’s Roma last summer, as part of a season-long loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain.

To say that his time in Italy’s capital has since proven to be a disappointment, though, would be something of an understatement.

All told, to date, Sanches has managed just nine appearances for the Giallorossi, a mere three of which came in the form of starts.

This comes as the former Benfica and Bayern Munich talent continues to struggle for form and fitness alike.

After being hooked just 20 minutes on from being introduced as a substitute in Roma’s Serie A meeting with Bologna last month, claims quickly started to spread in the media that Sanches had lost the trust of boss José Mourinho.

And, if the latest word doing the rounds on Friday is anything to go by, this would certainly appear to be the case.

As per the aforementioned Di Marzio, the powers that be in Rome are giving serious consideration to opening talks with PSG, over cutting Sanches’ loan short.

This would, in turn, open the door for Besiktas to enter the fray, with the Turkish giants understood to be desperate to bring the 26-year-old in with a view to the 2nd half of the season.
