Serie A PREVIEW | Inter v Salernitana

Inter will aim to make it eight straight wins across all competitions when they meet lowly Salernitana tonight at the San Siro.

Inter are on course to clinch the Scudetto for this season and they cemented their stride with their last two wins against league rivals Juventus and Roma. Francesco Acerbi, Marcus Thuram and Alessandro Bastoni found the net in the clash versus the Giallorossi which ended 4-2. The victory in Rome made them go clear by seven points with a game in hand at the top of the table.

2nd-placed Juventus were stunned by Udinese in Turin and now the Nerazzurri have a clear opportunity to extend the lead as league leaders to ten points.

With the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie scheduled for next week against Atletico Madrid, Simone Inzaghi’s men will hope to carry forward a positive momentum into the match by taking a victory tonight.

Meanwhile, Salernitana plunged deeper into the relegation pit with last week’s six-pointer defeat against Empoli. Shon Weissman scored the only goal for the Granata in the 3-1 loss as they continued their disarrayed form at the bottom of the pile.

The Salerno-based side are seven away from safety and with just two wins in this campaign, their survival hopes are fading away with each matchday. Fabio Liverani has replaced Filippo Inzaghi on the managerial bench, becoming the third coach for the club in a season which has been an absolutely downtrodden one.

Salernitana are searching for points from their next few league encounters and it would be a major step if they can grab at least a point from Inter.
