Antonio Conte takes shot at Inter after win over Lecce: “We are not stupid”

The war of words between Antonio Conte and the Inter camp appears far from over.

Following Napoli’s crucial 1-0 victory over Lecce, Conte launched a pointed critique of the current refereeing debate in Serie A, a move widely interpreted as a direct jab at his former club.

Speaking after the match, Conte addressed his team’s tendency not to publicly complain about refereeing decisions: “We are having many injuries, all kinds of bad things are happening to us, but regarding the referees, we don’t complain, but we are not stupid,” Conte stated to the press, via TMW. 

The comment is seen as a clear dig at Inter and their CEO Beppe Marotta. Marotta had recently spoken out vehemently about a controversial penalty decision that went against Inter during their loss to Napoli over the weekend, suggesting a potential lack of consistency in VAR’s application.

Conte’s remarks, contrasting his own club’s perceived silence with the public outcry from Inter’s executive, reignites the tension and suggests the battle over officiating fairness is escalating among the league’s top brass.
