Assessing Jonathan Davidโ€™s struggles at Juventus

Jonathan David joined Serie A giants Juventus on a free transfer after an exit from Lille but the striker is facing some struggles.

The Canadian didnโ€™t even come off the bench against Atalanta, as Juve played out a 1-1 draw. This came after the 25-year-old didnโ€™t start in the two games prior, failing to make a mark in the final third.

Gazzetta dello Sport note that Juveโ€™s signing of David was a clear message to Dusan Vlahovic, who was said to be up for sale. David was ahead of the Serbian in the pecking order but things have changed as Vlahovic has made a mark in the Serie A and Champions League.

The arrival of Lois Openda added further paradox to Juveโ€™s frontline, with Igor Tudor struggling to understand how to fit in the three number nines after having predominantly used a 3-4-1-2 shape.

Vlahovic featured against Atalanta on Saturday, showing that Tudor sees him as a more reliable option for the pure strikersโ€™ position and that is a problem for David, who will have to make a mark soon.
