Atalanta face major decision about Ederson’s future as agent refuses renewal

The future of Brazilian midfielder Ederson at Atalanta is becoming increasingly complicated, forcing the Nerazzurri management to confront a major decision regarding a potential sale.

According to a report from Alfredo Pedullà, the situation has escalated because the player’s agent, André Cury, has publicly refused to engage in negotiations for a contract renewal.

With Ederson’s current contract set to expire in June 2027, the lack of progress on an extension is a serious concern for the club, who typically operate by selling players at peak value. The agent’s aggressive stance—suggesting that the player’s price has effectively been halved from Atalanta’s initial valuation of €60-75 million to a more manageable €30-40 million due to his contract running down—puts immense pressure on the Bergamo club.

This complication means Atalanta can no longer simply hold onto the midfielder until the summer. They must now make a crucial decision: either commit a large salary to a player who is publicly open to leaving or accept a major fee now, with the January window or the summer transfer period being the last viable times to achieve maximum profit.

Should they fail to sell or renew, the club risks a situation where the player could potentially exploit FIFA’s Article 17, allowing him to walk away for a reduced compensation fee in the future, a scenario the club is desperate to avoid.
