The swift rise of defender Davide Bartesaghi is being cited as a prime example of the success of Milanโs youth development program Milan Futuro, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Despite the Milan Futuro Under-23 team experiencing disappointing results, including relegation from Serie C last season, the projectโs primary goalโvalorizing talentโis being fulfilled. Bartesaghi, a 19-year-old left-back, benefited immensely from his time with the second team, racking up 27 appearances across the league and playouts. This significant exposure and experience in a โproโ environment provided him with crucial baggage to demonstrate his potential.
The experience gained in Serie C has instilled great confidence in the 2005-born player, enabling him to seamlessly transition to the senior squad. Due to an injury to Estupiรฑรกn, coach Max Allegri is now utilizing Bartesaghi with continuity. His impressive response has even earned him call-ups to the Italy Under-21 national team since October.
The club chose not to send Bartesaghi out on loan despite numerous requests, a testament to the clubโs confidence in his readiness. The development team is proving its worth not just for Bartesaghi, but also for other talents like Alex Jimรฉnez (now promoted) and Francesco Camarda, underscoring that for Milan, the long-term value of these young stars outweighs the immediate results of the second team.
