Chelsea preparing renewed attempt for Milanโ€™s Mike Maignan

Chelsea are reportedly preparing to reignite their interest in AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan after an unsuccessful attempt to sign the French international during the summer transfer window, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Blues are currently in a phase of reflection regarding the Milan star, who remains the undisputed number one choice for the Rossoneri.

Maignan Contract Deadlock Continues

Maignanโ€™s situation at Milan remains precarious, with his current contract set to expire in June 2026. The club is anxious to avoid a repeat of the Gianluigi Donnarumma saga, which saw the previous star goalkeeper depart on a free transfer.

While the renewal of Maignan is Milanโ€™s absolute priority, negotiations have been fraught with tension, with initial talks ending in a cold greeting, not a handshake. Several months ago, Milan opted not to meet Maignanโ€™s salary demands, which were close to โ‚ฌ5 million per season.

Despite the friction, Milan remains determined to secure a new long-term deal. Director of Football Strategy Igli Tare recently confirmed the clubโ€™s intent, stating: โ€œMike is extraordinary and a fabulous goalkeeper. We will try to find a right path together in due time.โ€

However, the lack of an immediate agreement is forcing Milan to work on contingency plans, including scouting French-based alternatives in Robin Risser (Lens) and Berke Ozer (Lille), or pursuing a high-profile target like Alisson, who earns an annual salary close to โ‚ฌ8 million.
