Serie A champions Napoli are looking to acquire another midfielder in January. For Antonio Conte, Kobbie Mainoo has been the name in focus, but the deal is far from easy.
One main reason to reinforce the centre of the park relates to Frank Anguissaโs departure for the Africa Cup of Nations. Plus, with a number of key fixtures between now and January, the Neapolitan club will return to the market to seek quality reinforcements.
While the 20-year-old Mainoo is the main target, Manchester United are currently against a loan with an option to buy. Equally, Napoli are seemingly unwilling to spend significant sums on him. This isnโt helped by the Red Devils valuing him at least โฌ40-50 million. The player, for his part, would be happy to play for the Azzurri alongside former teammates Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund.
Sporting director Giovanni Manna is now evaluating alternative options. In recent days, RB Leipzigโs Amadou Haidara and Udineseโs Arthur Atta have emerged as potential candidates.
Mannaโs shortlist also includes Mats Wieffer (Brighton) and Sven Mijnans (AZ Alkmaar). A particularly close eye is being kept on the Premier Leagueโs surplus players, seeking a replacement for Anguissa.
