Max Allegri upbeat despite Milanโ€™s draw against Sassuolo

Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri expressed satisfaction with his teamโ€™s performance following their frustrating 2-2 draw against Sassuolo, a match where Milanโ€™s goals came from a Davide Bartesaghi brace, only to be pegged back by a Armand Laurientรจ equalizer. Allegri insisted the point was valuable as the clubโ€™s focus shifts to the upcoming Supercoppa Italiana.

Speaking to DAZN after the match, the manager preferred to focus on the attacking display while acknowledging recurring defensive issues.

He said โ€“ relayed by MilanNews: โ€œToday, in my opinion, we played a good match, we attacked well against a set defense. Sassuolo is always dangerous. But letโ€™s say we played a good match, but we risked losing it after our [potential] 3-1. Letโ€™s take this point and prepare for the Supercoppa.โ€

Allegri was keen to protect his players but admitted the teamโ€™s tendency to concede remains a major problem.

โ€œRegardless of the playersโ€™ characteristics, the team played a good match. We are momentarily at the top of the table. Our path is to reach the top 4 by May 25th. We know we must continue to work, and we must start conceding fewer goals because we have conceded too many. 2 against Parma, 2 today, 2 in Turin, 2 with Pisa, 2 with Torino, 2 with Cremonese. However, I have absolutely nothing to reproach the boys for.โ€

Despite the late drama that saw his side nearly lose, Allegri remained pragmatic about the result.

โ€œA draw doesnโ€™t change the teamโ€™s dynamics. We know the characteristics of the whole squadโ€ฆ We know we canโ€™t win every game, but we need to continue giving consistency to the results. Today we even risked losing, with Laurientรฉโ€™s shot we could have lost. We take home a draw which today seems like two thrown away points, but in the end will prove useful.โ€

Before the game, Milan were top of the table in Serie A. A draw does see them drop crucial points but a lot can depend on how Napoli and Iner fare in their games later.
