Napoli fans expelled from Eindhoven ahead of Champions League clash

230 travelling Napoli fans were detained overnight and expelled today from the Dutch city of Eindhoven ahead of the clubโ€™s Champions League game against PSV. There were no clashes reported between the travelling away fans with the home fans or the Dutch police making the situation even more bizarre.

As per Gazzetta.it, the authorities have said that it was a preventive measure and only those without a ticket for the game have been sent back. It has been reported that the Napoli fans allegedly violated the security zone established by the Dutch police. Others were also detained in different parts of the city and their tickets were cancelled.

The real reason seems to be slightly different. The match was designated high-risk because of existing supporter alliances: the PSV ultras are allied with fans from Inter Milan and Botev Plovdiv, while Napoliโ€™s supporters are twinned with those of Feyenoord and Lokomotiv Plovdiv.
