PSGโ€™s Gigio Donnarumma after heroics against Liverpool: โ€œI see a lot of criticism from journalists, if you can call them thatโ€

Paris Saint-Germainโ€™s Gigio Donnarumma has hit back at journalists after he played a key role in the clubโ€™s penalty shootout win over Liverpool in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

The Italian saved penalties from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones, as PSG scored all four of their spotkicks. The French side had gone into extra time with a 1-0 lead, having been 1-0 down from the first leg despite a brilliant attacking show.

Donnarumma had some words to say to Sky Italia about the game and he criticised the โ€˜journalistsโ€™ who have bashed him for weaknesses.

He said, as relayed by TMW: โ€œIโ€™m a little nervous about this, I see a lot of criticism from journalists, if you can call them that, without knowing what the job is. In the first leg we conceded a shot and a goal, it seemed like it was my fault: I always think about smiling, giving my best and working for the team.โ€

Speaking of PSGโ€™s performance across the two legs, the Italian said: โ€œIโ€™m happy with the teamโ€™s performance, we knew how to suffer this evening. We knew that coming here wouldnโ€™t be easy, playing in this stadium with an exceptional crowd is not simple.

โ€œItโ€™s always tough to come to Anfield, especially if you have to overturn the 1-0 from the first leg. We played a great match, suffering as we knew we would. We knew how to do it and Iโ€™m very happy to have won, to have gone through to the next round.โ€

Donnarumma has faced criticism for his weaknesses on the ball that have cost PSG goals in the last few months. But constantly throughout his career, he has shown his character by making key saves during huge occassions for club and country. He did it again yesterday.
