In what was the inauguration of Evertonโs new stadium, Roma went on to beat the Toffees 1-0 in their final game of the pre-season tour of England. The goal was scored in the second half by Argentine forward Matias Soule. This win was much needed given Romaโs 4-0 loss to Aston Villa earlier in the week.
This could be a big season for Soule. The talent is clearly there and in the last couple of seasons, he has shown plenty of it. With Paulo Dybala ageing, the scene is set for Soule to really explode and become the central figure in Romaโs attack and one of the best in Serie A overall. Itโs also worth keeping in mind that new Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini has a fantastic track record with attackers.
For Roma, new signings Neil El Aynaoui and Daniele Ghilardi were quite impressive and comfortable. The same could not be said of Wesley however as he struggled a little in possession. With Artem Dobvykโs form not improving, it will not be surprising if Evan Ferguson starts the first game of the season.
