San Siro sale to Milan and Inter under investigation for rigging

The Milan Prosecutorโ€™s Office has opened an investigation into the sale of the San Siro stadium to AC Milan and Inter Milan on serious charges of โ€œturbativa dโ€™astaโ€ (big-rigging or manipulation of a public tender), according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

This development comes immediately after the notarial deed for the sale was signed, transferring the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and its surrounding areas to the two clubs for a price of โ‚ฌ197 million.

The investigation, which initially began in March 2025, centers on alleged irregularities in the municipal tender procedure. The prosecutorโ€™s office has heard from promoter Claudio Trotta, a key figure in the โ€œSรฌ Meazzaโ€ committee which opposed the clubsโ€™ plan for a new stadium.

Trotta, appearing as a witness, testified that despite the existence of an international tender (opened on March 24 with an April 30 deadline), it was made โ€œimpossible to participate in the tender of the Municipality due to the too tight deadlines.โ€ The fact that no other entity came forward during the brief bidding period is what the investigation is now focusing onโ€”to determine if the compressed timeline was an intentional manipulation of the process to ensure the sale exclusively went to Milan and Inter.
