Newcastle Unitedโ€™s Sandro Tonali open to Serie A return: โ€œIโ€™m not closing the doorโ€

Ahead of Italyโ€™s crucial match against Estonia on Matchday five of World Cup Qualifying, Sandro Tonali caught up with Vivo Azzurro.

The former AC Milan player spoke about current Italian affairs, but also discussed a possible return to Serie A: โ€œYou can never know what will happen, I tell everyone itโ€™s possible. Iโ€™m not closing the door on Italy; itโ€™s my country.โ€œ

He also stated belief that Serie Aโ€™s level is rising and is higher than it was earlier.

He said, via Di Marzio: โ€œMaybe not now because Iโ€™ve found my balance at Newcastle, but the league is getting better and better, the level of the teams is rising.โ€

This came after Tonali was spotted in Milan with his agent Beppe Riso. This was seen as a meeting to discuss the midfielderโ€™s future at Newcastle United.

Reports also spoke of Juventusโ€™ interest in Tonali, stating that while they tried to sign the player in the summer, a future attempt cannot be ruled out.

The Italian clearly is keen on a future return to Serie A and doesnโ€™t hide his admiration for Calcio.

Ahead of his countryโ€™s clash with Estonia, the Brescia native also addressed Gennaro Gattusoโ€™s patriotic approach to the national team.

โ€œHe instils a lot of attachment to the shirt in us. The intensity of training is high, the desire to train is immense. In the past, weโ€™d get lost in a glass of water; if we conceded the first goal, weโ€™d cause problems for ourselves. Now weโ€™ve rediscovered our courage.โ€

Regarding praise from Paul Scholes, who called Tonali the best midfielder in the Premier League, the former Rossoneri man said:

โ€œEvery time you get compliments from strong former players, itโ€™s nice and youโ€™re surprised, itโ€™s always a nice feeling.โ€
