Why Fiorentina have signed Albert Gudmundsson permanently from Genoa

Fiorentina have announced that they have exercised the option to permanently buy Albert Gudmundsson from Genoa. It has been reported that the deal cost La Viola โ‚ฌ13m.

The Iceland international already spent the 2024/25 season in Florence, and impressed everyone. In all competitions, Gudmundsson had 8 goals and 3 assists in 33 total matches. In Serie he had the 9th best scoring average, with a great tally of 0.43 goals per 90 minutes. Overall, he scored a goal every 176 minutes, with Fiorentina winning 75% of the games he netted in. Only Moise Kean and Rolando Mandragora scored more for Fiorentina than Gudmundsson, and the former built up a very prolific partnership with him. Overall itโ€™s very clear why they have decided to sign him permanently.

Gudmundsson has been in Italy for a while now and in particular, his stint at Genoa is worth mentioning. For them, he had 87 appearances and 31 goals and 10 assists across Serie A, Serie B, and Coppa Italia, a ratio of better than a goal every three matches. He was the teamโ€™s top scorer in both 2022โ€“23 and 2023โ€“24. That is when big teams began taking notice and it was Fiorentina who managed to sign him on loan last year.

Expect big things from the attack-minded Iceland international this season.
