At 23, Zion Suzuki is one of the brightest goalkeeping talents in Serie A. This week, Parmaโs Japanese shot-stopper extraordinaire sat down for a chat with Corriere dello Sportโs Ivan Zazzaroni.
Suzuki has turned heads in Italy, since his arrival from STVV in the Belgian Pro League last summer. This season, the unassuming keeper has kept two clean sheets in seven games and has even been tracked by both Chelsea and Milan. With his words to Zazzaroni, itโs clear why the elite clubs are circling.
For Suzuki, training and routine are huge parts of his lifestyle. โToday, for example, I did some exercises with special glasses and alternating lights to improve my reflexes. I work out, as I was saying, and then I study English and Italian.โ
โPilates helps improve posture and flexibility, and strengthens the core.โ
Speaking in more depth about his key traits, the 6 ft 3 goalie continued, โIโm a calm guy, a goalkeeper always has to be that way. I cover the goal well, and I know how to play with my feet.โ
Although not really asked about his potential suitors, itโs clear that Suzuki is razor-focused on getting better. โI work every day to improve in every way.โ
The Japanese has been linked with a move to Chelsea and Milan in recent days. He was asked specifically about it and Suzuki signaled his major ambitions regarding his future.
โI want to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and Iโm very focused on Parma and the World Cup.โ
