Serie A side Como have reaped rewards of having appointed Cesc Fabregas, who now taken them into the Champions League. As they look to go a level up, the Spaniard has revealed some key inspirations of his career.
Fabregas was present at the Trento Sports Festival today and like the others, he was asked a host of questions while on stage.
The Como boss was asked about his former managers Antonio Conte and Arsene Wenger during his playing days at Chelsea and Arsenal respectively. He pointed out the differences between the two, also indicating how the Italian impacted him.
Fabregas said โ via Calciomercato: โWith Conte at Chelsea, I was already 29. Before that, I had Wenger, and we didnโt focus on tactics as much, we didnโt work on mentality as much, but he was very good at bringing in players with the same football ideas and giving you a lot of freedom.โ
He further pointed out how he did find it difficult to fit Conteโs system first but soon, it worked well as he was more focused on the process.
โConte was attentive to detail, structure, and movement, and for me it was even difficult at first. No one had ever told me where I was supposed to pass the ball.โ
โThe full-back passed me the ball, and I put it first time to Diego Costa, who scored. I thought it was fine since we scored, but at the end of training Conte said, โNooo, football isnโt like that,โ and explained to me where I was supposed to pass it.โ

Mix of both approaches
In a lot of ways, Fabregas taking inspiration from both Conte and Wenger is seen in his system. While it does have a larger set of ideas, the players move quite freely within that setup and have the room to express their strengths, while having had their weaknessed reduced.
That is what makes him one of the best managers in Europe right now and his stock will definitely go up.
