Genoa manager Daniele De Rossi cut a dejected figure following his side’s heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to Napoli, a match decided by a controversial stoppage-time penalty.
According to TUTTOmercatoWEB, the Rossoblù coach was left reeling after Rasmus Hojlund converted a late spot-kick to secure his brace and all three points for the Partenopei. Speaking after the final whistle, De Rossi voiced his deep frustration with the current state of officiating and the direction the sport is taking.
“I don’t know what to say anymore,” De Rossi lamented. “We don’t know what a clear error is anymore, or whether or not we have to step on a foot. The football we used to play no longer exists. I don’t know anything anymore; I don’t know what sport I’m coaching.”
The game was a rollercoaster at Marassi, with Hojlund proving decisive for Antonio Conte’s side. Despite a spirited performance from Genoa, the late penalty call—which De Rossi admitted left a “bitter taste in the mouth”—undid their hard work.
“It’s a shame,” De Rossi added. “I can no longer walk into the dressing room and tell them to keep their heads up. We didn’t deserve to finish like this again after playing like that against a strong team. As one of my staff colleagues rightly said, people protest about everything now; we are always looking for an advantage from this distorted regulation.”
