In a recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan defender Fikayo Tomori discussed, among other things, Max Allegri amid uncertainties over the latterโs future at the club.
Speaking about the 58-year-old, the England international explained how Allegri helped them deal with their issues at the back and return to title contention.
โAs soon as he [Allegri] arrived, he reminded us that in the last 2-3 years we had conceded many goals and that he wanted to bring more solidity in defence. We couldnโt finish where we wanted if every race we conceded 2-3 goalsโฆ
โHe transmitted to us the desire to suffer in order not to concede goals and his desire to win. We players are happy with him because he is a good person and a very prepared coach.โ
Tomori also made it clear that he wanted Allegri to stay at San Siro.
โYes, of course [I want him to stay]. This season has brought us solidity. The coach said with all the calmness in the world that we need to stay organised.
โHeโs good at managing the moments of the season, we are happy with him, and I think itโs been evident this season that we fight and strive for him: today is another match to do so.โ
Allegriโs future has been up in the air due to Milanโs recent form, his demands for next season, as well as the upheaval at Coverciano. FIGC presidency hopeful Giovanni Malagรฒ has Allegri at the top of his list to take the Italy menโs national team job.
About to enter the final year of his โฌ4.49m-per-year contract, Tomori was also asked about his own future at San Siro, to which he replied, โI donโt think about it [renewal] that much. The club and my agents deal and Iโm focused on the last five games because playing the Champions League is our goal.โ
