Serie B side Cesena have appointed former Arsenal and Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole as their latest head coach.
According to a report by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Cole is set to make his managerial career debut with Cesena as the Bianconeri’s American owners decided to part ways with Michele Mignani following a 2-2 draw with Frosinone.
The Englishman has previously worked as an assistant manager, Lee Carsley, with the England U-21s and as Frank Lampard’s deputy at Everton.
Cole will feature on the touchline for the first time in his career as a head coach of a team on Tuesday evening when Cesena take on Mantova in an Italian second division clash.
The club from the Emilia-Romagna region is undergoing a winless run for seven straight matches, and despite a valiant 2-2 draw against Frosinone over the weekend, it was not enough for Mignani to convince the owners. Cesena are a long way from promotion this year, and it is to be seen whether this managerial change brings them some relief.
