Inter CEO Marotta protects Alessandro Bastoni: โ€œHe is subjected to constant lynchingโ€

Serie A side Inter have seen Alessandro Bastoni have a difficult few months ever since 2026 began. Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta has come out in defence of the defender.

Inter took on Roma on Sunday but Bastoni โ€“ as has been the case for weeks, was a topic of discussion. He was sent off during Italyโ€™s loss to Bosnia and this came some weeks after he was criticised in the media for Pierre Kaluluโ€™s sending off against Juventus.

This had forced Bastoni to publicly apologise too, with Barcelona rumours now creeping up slowly.

Marotta spoke to Sky before the Roma game. He described Bastoniโ€™s treatment as a case of lynching.

Hitting back at his detractors, the Italian said โ€“ via TMW: โ€œItโ€™s shameful that heโ€™s been subjected to this constant lynching as if he were guilty of something beyond belief. The origins of Italyโ€™s elimination go back a little further. Beyond that, a boy his age doesnโ€™t deserve this treatment.โ€

Marotta said that everyone in Calcio pretends to become an expert, describing Bastoni as someone who is a shining light for the game in Italy.

โ€œMistakes are made in life, but here in Italy weโ€™re all used to having to become psychologists and football experts, analyzing situations without knowing who weโ€™re dealing with. We all acknowledged that he made a mistake, for a boy his age. Bastoni is an asset to Inter and Italian football.

He also made it clear that are no chances of him leaving Inter

โ€œAnd we consider him as such for now, there arenโ€™t the right circumstances or conditions for him to abandon this shirt. As with all players, there may be situations that will be addressed later.โ€
