Italy NT dealt blow as Nicolo Tresoldi delays nationality change

The Italian national team have been desperately trying to call-up Club Brugge’s Nicolo Tresoldi to the setup under Roberto Mancini. For now, the process is facing hitches.

The matter seemed like a done deal some days ago. It was clear the attacker had chosen to represent the Azzurri, despite his German connections.

La Gazzetta dello Sport – via Calciomercato, note that he did express his approval of the switch to Mancini. The player was rather keen on playing for Italy but in the last few hours, the process has met with difficulties.

This is because of Tresoldi himself, who has chosen to stall after he scored for Club Brugge in their Champions League opener against Aston Villa.

This is mainly because he feels very involved with the German U21s side right now. He dreams of qualifying for the U21s European Championships with that team and also wants to play at the tournament.

That is why the process has been delayed and could take some more time.

Italy would hope the matter is sorted out quickly. There is currently a lack of quality options in attack and Tresoldi could solve it, considering his versatility.
