Juventus target Jean-Philippe Mateta has informed Crystal Palace he wants to leave amid interest from other Premier League and European clubs.
The Frenchman has 18 months remaining on his current deal at Selhurst Park and doesnโt look likely to sign an extension. Juventus have already tried to sign the striker this month, but have so far failed to reach the Eaglesโ valuation, which is thought to be around ยฃ40m. Aston Villa have also shown interest in a move this month.
Speaking last week, Palace manager Oliver Glasner admitted the club are listening to offers for the forward who has eight Premier League goals so far this season.
โThere will be a price that Crystal Palace [accept], with 18 months left on his contract. Weโd do the deal, if JP wants. If nobody pays that price, then he will stay.โ
For Palace, Matetaโs move will be another huge exit. Last seasonโs FA Cup winners sold Eberechi Eze to Arsenal in the summer and have just lost captain Marc Guehi this January to Manchester City in a ยฃ20m deal.
Speaking of Juveโs transfer situation in his pre-Benfica Champions League press conference, Luciano Spalletti presented a calm face to the media.
โI always have Chiellini, Modesto, Ottolini, and Comolli by my side. These are questions for them; I have a different job. Iโm expressing my opinion, but I donโt expect anything.
โI accepted Juve as it was when I arrived. Weโll move forward calmly and consistently, confident of fighting for our objectives with the players we have. Injuries can be worrying, but the players have grown, and Iโm happy with them.โ
