Striker Lautaro Martinez was linked with a move away from Serie A champions Inter in the summer, as Barcelona were once interested.
A deal never went through, as the Nerazzurri stood firm and were keen on keeping their Argentine, who was seen as a possible alternative to Julian Alvarez by the Catalan side.
The Inter striker was asked about the rumours around Barcelona today. He confirmed that the speculation held some truth but he also revealed reasons behind his decision to stay with Cristian Chivuโs side.
He told Sky Italia โ via Alfredo Pedulla: : โBarcelona? When offers like this and these calls arrive, itโs always nice: you work to stay at the top. The rumors were true, but I have very clear ideas. I wanted to stay here with my teammates and these magnificent fans.โ
Martinez clarified that Inter have all he needs and he wouldnโt be anywhere else right now.
The striker said: โI would stay forever, and as long as they want me, Iโll stay here. Then, at work, we know: when youโre no longer needed, they send you away. For me, Inter is all pride, happiness, and the desire to continue. Iโve chosen to stay here once again; I want to do great things at Inter.โ
Martinezโs comments โ once again, shed light on his loyalty to Inter. This has always been emphasised in the past and doesnโt really need documenting but the player has an indelible connection which will be difficult to break unless something extraordinary transpires.
