Leo Messi reaches agreement over Newellโ€™s Old Boys return

In what would be one of the most emotional homecomings in football history, Leo Messi has reached an agreement in principle to return to his boyhood club, Newellโ€™s Old Boys.

According to TuttoMercatoweb, the clubโ€™s president, Ignacio Boero, has taken decisive steps to finalize the arrangement with the Argentine legend. The deal is structured as a short-term loan that would see Messi wear the Newellโ€™s shirt between January 2027 and the summer of 2027. Following this six-month stint in Rosario, the eight-time Ballon dโ€™Or winner would return to Inter Miami to see out the remainder of his contract, which is set to expire in 2028.

Beyond the sporting and financial negotiations, Boero has also been working on the complex logistics of the move. He has already held discussions with the local government in the Santa Fe province to establish a comprehensive security plan, ensuring the playerโ€™s safety during his stay in the city.
