Serie A side Napoli have been struggling this season and things came to a head against Porto on Wednesday. Matteo Politano called out non-Italian players in his post-game interview and La Gazzetta dello Sport believe that this shows that the dressing room has major rifts.
The newspaper detail that the Italians – Politano, Leonardo Spinazzola and Giovanni di Lorenzo, are very close and hang out together. Giovane and Alisson are close and so are David Neres and Noa Lang. At the same time, Kevin De Bruyne, Rasmus Hojlund, Scott McTominay and Stanislav Lobotka are largely reserved individuals, even if they have significant impact on the pitch.
Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa used to be very close to Victor Osimhen and Juan Jesus. Their exits have reduced the midfielder to being a largely solitary individual. It is believed that the exit of Jesus was key, as he could’ve been a uniting factor for the dressing room because of his leadership qualities.
But the rifts are clear to see and this is causing problems for Napoli and they came out in the open on Wednesday evening.
The club is, as a result, in retreat, hoping that things change for the better against Lazio.
