Milan boss Max Allegri plays talk of Italy national team move

Serie A side Milan have seen Max Allegri get linked with a move to the Italian national team in recent weeks. This happened after a poor run of results that have led to the Rossoneri falling away from the title race. The Italian has now trashed the talk of a move to the Azzurri.

Get Italian Football News have covered how Giovanni Malagoโ€™s appointment at FIGC can dictate Allegriโ€™s move to the national team.

Now, that might not be the case. Allegri spoke to the press after Milanโ€™s 1-0 win over Verona and he was asked specifically about his future at the Diavolo.

He said โ€“ relayed by Calciomercato: โ€œNo phone calls, my only concern is Milan. Weโ€™ve started a journey together and weโ€™ll continue. Leao had a good game, he provided the assist, then I needed a striker with different characteristics, and Gimenez came in. Everyone needs to feel important and come in in top condition.โ€

Mike Maignan was racially abused in the game by Verona fans. Allegri also spoke of that, issuing a response that may not go down well with too many.

โ€œI hadnโ€™t even noticed. Maignan was good at ignoring these things. You fight by ignoring these things. We all have to fight them.โ€

He also described his admiration for Adrien Rabiot, who scored the winner in the first half.

โ€œI had Adrien for three years at Juventus. Heโ€™s an important player like all the others who made themselves available today. Itโ€™s normal for great players to be able to give something extra. Heโ€™d been โ€˜wanderingโ€™ around the pitch for a few games, then heโ€™d been lacking a goal. Sunday is a great match between two teams aiming for the Champions League.โ€

The win took Milan back up to second in the table. But they are 12 points behind Inter, who have one hand on the title.
