As laid out by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the sporting hierarchy at Milan is finally taking shape under the leader of Gerry Cardinale, de facto leader at the club.
Alongside the first-team head coach role, recently taken up by Ruben Amorim, several other roles have been occupied in recent days. Here, we look at the new sporting heads at the red side of San Siro.
Hendrik Almstadt
Having been an executive assistant at the club since 2019, Hendrik Almstadt will be the clubโs new Director of Player Trading and oversee matters of the transfer market.
Before Milan, Almstadt was the sporting director at Aston Villa during the 2015/16 season, a role he left within six months amid a brutal campaign that would see the Villans get relegated from the Premier League with a 20th-placed finish. Before that, he had a five-season stint at Arsenal as an executive assistant.
Bobby Gardiner
Bobby Gardiner, having arrived at Milan in 2019 at the behest of Almstadt during the Ivan Gazidis days, is the new Director of Football Intelligence at the club.
A former analytics-driven football writer, Gardiner, alongside Ben Torvaney and Tiago Estรชvรฃo, was once credited by The Athletic as one of the key figures who shaped Milanโs previous successful rebuild that culminated in the Serie A triumph in 2021/22. Heโs being promoted from being the Head of Performance Analytics.
Donato Lomonte
A scout at the club between 2017 and 2024, Donato Lomonte is now the Head of Scouting at the club. He has previously held roles at Ternana Calcio (technical coach, 2016โ17) and Polisportiva Gaeta 1931 (manager, 2013โ15).
Notable RedBird personnel
It is confirmed Gerry Cardinale will be taking a more hands-on approach in club matters going forward. Alongside him, Massimo Calvelli has been confirmed as Milanโs new Chief Executive Officer, having worked in that capacity for a while since taking over from Giorgio Furlani. David Castelblanco, Cardinaleโs right-hand man and part of Milanโs board of directors, is set to remain in the picture alongside Zlatan Ibrahimoviฤ, who is set to remain a close senior advisor to Cardinale.
Other confirmations at Milan
Paolo Scaroni is set to remain Milan president, a role he has held since July 2018. Jovan Kirovski will continue heading the development of Milan Futuro and other youth teams, with Vincenzo Vergine being the academy manager.
