With the Rossonerri prepared to make a major push for Champions League this season after having missed out on the European competition two seasons in a row, Milan are prepared to enter a serious pursuit for Sporting Lisbon’s central defender Goncalo Inacio.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that following the completion of high-profile signings of Portuguese forward Goncalo Ramos and Belgian winger Diego Moreira for a combined transfer fee of €150m in the summer market, the Milanese club are indeed prepared to follow-up with an active winter transfer window as they seek to avoid missing out on Champions League for a third consecutive season.
Hence, the Rossonerri are plotting to reignite their interest for the 25-year-old central defender after the potential transfer did not materialize prior to the start of the season, as they consider him their primary target heading into January.
Despite the skipper of the Portuguese giants having recently signed a long-term contract until 2030 last December, Sporting were open to letting Inacio depart following Milan’s offer of €40m. However, the left-footed defender was forced to remain put as the Portuguese outfits did not find a suitable alternative in time.
With the Rossonerri keen on enhancing the calibre of the squad through bringing in leaders and quality players that could enable Milan in obtaining silverware, the acquisition of Goncalo Inacio would be pivotal as the Portuguese international has already thrived under Ruben Amorim throughout their time together at Sporting Lisbon within a back-three, excelling through his refined ability to play out of the back and strong technical skill.
It remains to be seen if Sporting would be willing to let Inacio depart the club mid-season, and if the Portuguese defender would be open to a move to the Rossonerri as he seeks Champions League football in order to make a statement and emerge as a regular within the Portuguese national team.
