Milanโ€™s Samuele Ricci after Udinese loss: โ€œThereโ€™s something wrong beyond the formationโ€

Serie A side Milan came up with a poor performance on Saturday against Udinese, notching up a disastrous 3-0 loss.

The defeat comes at a point when the Rossoneri couldnโ€™t afford another loss. They couldnโ€™t take a single point against Napoli, leaving them third in the table.

Now, there is every chance they can soon find themselves in the battle for a Champions League spot.

Samuele Ricci spoke to the press after the tie. The build-up was full of talk around how Milan could try a 4-3-3 formation to bring more out of the players. The midfielder clarified that the defeat shows their problems go beyond the formation.

He said โ€“ via TMW: โ€œThereโ€™s been a lot of talk about changing the formation, because we have several players who are good at one-on-ones. But if you approach matches like this, it means thereโ€™s something wrong that goes beyond the formation. Weโ€™re very disappointed, weโ€™re angry, thereโ€™s bitterness, for us and for the fans.โ€

Ricci also urged his teammates to show more character, indicating that the problems are related to mentality.

โ€œIt wonโ€™t happen because we have 63 points, and thereโ€™s a reason why we have these points: this team has technical qualities, but now we need to bring out the human ones too. Itโ€™s a difficult moment, we need to show character, unite, analyze the mistakes. Then today we werenโ€™t very present, I had this feeling.โ€

The end to the season is unlikely to be easy for the Rossoneri, who have six games left to play. Two of those will see them face Juventus and Atalanta, with games against Sassuolo and Genoa not expected to be easy ones either.
