As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Scott McTominay has began individual training back at Castel Volturno, with Napoli aiming to see him back on the pitch soon after the ongoing international break.
The Scotsman is returning from a corrective ablation surgery he underwent in Manchester to treat an arrhythmia detected earlier this month.
If all goes to plan, the 29-year-old could be back in action as soon as Napoliโs first game after the break, which will see them host the high-flying Frosinone on October 11, although the club have stated that they are taking the necessary precautions.
McTominayโs return cannot arrive quickly enough for the Partenopei, who have had a patchy start to the season and life under new coach, Max Allegri.
The Partenopei have started the season with two wins, two defeats, and a draw. One of the biggest issues they have had to deal with is a clear lack of verticality through the middle.
In McTominayโs absence, Napoli have been able to circulate the ball, they havenโt had his penetrative runs through the middle, which allows creators to find an outlet for their balls as well offer support to the forwards.
McTominayโs runs between the lines help move the phase of play. His physicality give the team an edge both in offence and defence. That he has become an phenom ever since moving to Italy puts that much more importance on his sheer presence on the pitch, and both the club and their fans will hope to see him back in action soon.
Despite their patchy start to the season, there are no doubts regarding Allegriโs future at the Maradona, although the club did expect a better start to the campaign.
