Serie A side Roma take on Real Madrid in their next and huge Champions League tie this week. The occassion would see Jose Mourinho return to the Italian capital for the first time since his painful departure from the Giallorossi.
Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini has now spoken to the press about the Portuguese and his impact at the club.
He made it clear that Mourinho deserves to be applauded by the clubโs supporters tomorrow.
โItโs only right that heโs applauded by the fans. Thereโs been a lot of love for Mourinho, and he deserves all the recognition theyโll give him.โ
At the same time, Gasperini made it clear the focus of the game would still shift to Roma trying to get what they can from the tie.
โWeโre talking about one of the most successful players of all time. Iโm also convinced, however, that once the match starts, everyone will only think about supporting Roma.โ
The Italian also refuted the comparison between where Roma are now under him and how they were under Mourinho.
โWeโre talking about two different teams. Josรฉโs was a team with new ownership, and there was great enthusiasm. But mine is a team thatโs growing and very tough.โ
He also ended up taking a shot at the clubโs ownership, when asked about what he could borrow from Mourinhoโs skillset.
โIf I could steal something from Mourinho as a coach? The empathy with which he manages to convince owners to buy incredible players.โ
