Roma progressing in move for Marseilleโ€™s Leo Balerdi and why a deal could be important

Serie A side Roma are in the hunt for a defensive signing after the failed deal for Jayden Oosterwolde, who failed his second medical. The latest name to be of interest is that of Marseilleโ€™s Leo Balerdi.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that talks are on for the Argentine, who has given his approval for the transfer.

Roma already have a strong Argentine contingent and the defender would strengthen that and feel rather at home.

Marseille have also opened up to a transfer. The Ligue 1 side and Roma are now discussing a loan with an option to buy and good signs are shining through that things are going in the right direction.

The key reason behind the transfer is Romaโ€™s failure to sign Nottingham Forestโ€™s Morato. The Tricky Trees rejected the idea of a loan and Jan Ziolkowski is on his way to Monza, which is leaving the Giallorossi looking for a player of Balerdiโ€™s ilk.

He will be a rotation option behind Evan Ndicka, who is expected to be a regular in the back three.
