Manu Kone has been one of the best midfielders in Serie A across the last two seasons. There is now a rising possibility of him departing at the end of the campaign.
There have been doubts that the Frenchman could be sold in the summer. This is mainly because of Financial Fairplay worries, with Roma looking to make key sales to earn capital gains by the end of June.
Failure to do that can land them in trouble, with Koneโs sale likely to help the Giallorossi quite a bit.
Gian Piero Gasperini spoke to the press ahead of Romaโs game against Parma. He was specifically asked about Kone and his future at the Italian capital.
He said โ via CM: โModern football, I think, no longer features unsellable players anywhere. Perhaps only in the top, top, top teams in the world. Letโs go back to the issue of fourth place, which always makes a difference financially. When faced with unmissable offers, everyone, except a very few, is available. But I donโt know if these unmissable offers are that common; theyโre truly rare.โ
Gasperini appeared resigned to losing Kone, if a good offer arrives, even if the Italian would ideally want to keep him beyond this season.
โThere are many clear opportunities around. But as for him, heโs a strong player, and Iโd like him to continue playing for Roma. Why would I say Iโd like him to leave? No, I hope he continues. Then, if an unmissable offer were to arriveโI donโt know, perhaps one that would allow him to do other thingsโweโll see. Last year was different, but thatโs not the case for everyone.โ
This is a clear sign that Gasperini might not have a say, if clubs do want Romaโs players. This might not just stand true for Kone but will also apply for the likes of Evan Ndicka and Mile Svilar too.
Kone has been an appealing target to Inter, with Newcastle United also mentioned as a suitor.
