Serie A side Milan open their Europa League campaign against Benfica at the San Siro today. But before the tie, manager Ruben Amorim was asked about his squad and where the team stands right now.
The Portuguese made it clear that despite Milan signing several players in the summer, the squad is still isnโt altered as per his system.
He spoke to the press before the game, saying โ via Gazzetta dello Sport: : โI think youโre partly right. This team is different, theyโre used to playing with three, the defenders are quick. I donโt have the perfect characteristics because itโs impossible to arrive at a new club and have everything ready.โ
โI know it will take time, and I also know the pressure is so high that you donโt have time.โ
Amorim also revealed he would rather fail big as it would signal that he was courageous enough to take bold steps towards implementing his ideas.
โI prefer doing this kind of work because it means a lot to me. If I have to fail, itโs better if I fail big. I want to help this club. I donโt know if Iโll have the time, but the players listen to me a lot in training, and that gives me hope that solutions can be found.โ
At the time of writing, Milan are 1-0 down to Benfica. But regardless, Amorimโs comment indicate how desperate he is to make his system work at the Rossoneri.
There have been promising signs so far but it is also clear that some work is yet to be done, with the manager yet to identify the correct profiles for each role.
