Why Atleticoโ€™s Jack Raspadori is opting to join Atalanta over Roma

Giacomo Raspadori has made a definitive decision regarding his future, choosing to join Atalanta despite a long-standing pursuit from Roma.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian international has opted for a move to Bergamo to work under the direction of Raffaele Palladino, effectively ending the Giallorossiโ€™s hopes of bringing him to the capital.

Notably, the collapse of the move to Roma comes as a surprise given that the club had already reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid over a transfer fee. However, the proposal from Atalanta proved more enticing for both the player and the Spanish club. One of the primary factors in the decision was the guarantee of Champions League football, a stage Raspadori is eager to continue playing on. Furthermore, while Romaโ€™s offer was structured around a loan with a future purchase option, Atalanta presented a permanent deal that provided immediate certainty for all parties involved.

Indeed, the project in Bergamo was seen as the ideal environment for the forward to rediscover his best form. The opportunity to fit into a highly offensive system that is already competing at the highest level in Europe outweighed the advanced negotiations held with Roma sporting director Ricky Massara. For Atletico Madrid, the chance to monetize the departure immediately rather than waiting for a redemption clause was also a decisive element in favoring the deal with the Nerazzurri.
