Why Chelseaโ€™s Marc Cucurella replacement can come from Serie A

Quickly enough, Chelsea have confirmed that Marc Cucurella will join Real Madrid in the summer. The deal has gone through rather swiftly, leaving the Blues looking for a replacement for the Spaniard.

Now, there is every chance that the required player can come from Serie A.

Gianluigi Longari has reported about Chelseaโ€™s interest in Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso. The Italy international has previously been attracted interest from Manchester City, who could never quite meet Juveโ€™s asking price in January 2025.

Things are much different now, with the Old Ladyโ€™s demands having reduced.

Longari notes that with Giovanni Carnevali having come in as Juveโ€™s new CEO, Cambiaso can be a key candidate to leave. While the full-back would much rather join Barcelona or Inter, Chelsea remain in the race for the 26-year-old.

The Nerazzurriโ€™s move will depend on whether they end up signing Marco Palestra or not.

Deal can benefit all parties

In a way, Cambiaso can more than just replace Cucurella. His profile aligns with how a modern-day full-back is, as the Italian can often invert into midfield and when needed, also slot in as a winger on either side.

He boasts impressive technical ability, which is why Pep Guardiola was keen on having him at Manchester City. Increasingly, it has been clear he needs to depart Juve to reach another level. The Old Lady can yet earn a significant fee and parties can them move on amicably.
