There have been murmurs of discontent amongst the Milan fanbase in recent days, as the Serie A giants have been winless in three games in all competitions. The loss to Benfica has piled on frustration but sacking Ruben Amorim remains out of the question, for now.
La Gazzetta dello Sport note that Gerry Cardinale is a big reason behind this. He has taken over a lot of decision-making power in the last few months and has been keen on being very involved with the goings-on at Milan. He realises that the club needs an identity shift and Amorim is the sort of manager who can help them achieve that.
He also knows that it is a long-term idea which wonโt come to fruition in a matter of weeks. Cardinale also recognises the need to tide through difficult times, when results arenโt going their way โ like how things are now.
Besides, Amorim and Cardinale have been working rather closely. They regularly have discussions about the project โ in an almost corporate way. This has given the Portuguese an umbrella which will act as protection.
Amorim is also being trusted with signings. That will continue to be the case, as the ex-Manchester United has a long-term deal and this will prevent any drastic decisions from the club and make sure that the manager is being trusted.
