Aston Villa and Celtic made approach for Bologna defender

Premier League side Aston Villa and Scottish giants Celtic had made a summer approach for Bologna’s Aaron Hickey last summer.

This comes from Corriere dello Sport, who state that even though Hickey was injured over the summer, clubs did come forward for the ex-Hearts and Hoops defender. They claim that Celtic wanted to bring him back to Parkhead, while Rangers also made an attempt for the defender.

Aston Villa also came forward, Bologna refused to let the player leave because of how much they value the Scotsman. The report goes on to mention the confidence that the Rossoblu have in the former Hearts teenager and that is one reason why they didn’t sell him.

Hickey has impressed for Bologna in recent weeks, having found the net twice in consecutive games. He scored for the club against Lazio in a 3-0 win for the Rossoblu.
