Former Napoli striker: “I was treated as a pawn by Napoli for capital gains.”

Former Napoli youngster Luigi Liguori has stated that he was used as a pawn for capital gains, when he was used in the club’s deal for Victor Osimhen.

Napoli had done a cash plus players deal for Osimhen in the summer of 2020. Liguori spoke to La Repubblica and he spoke about the manner of the transfer for the player.

The striker stated: “I was playing on loan at Fermana, they called me and offered me either the renewal for a year or three years of contract at Lille in the Osimhen deal, what would you have done? But I never went to Lille, not even to sign.

“We didn’t know everything, they just told us that Lille wanted three young players and they had thought of us. Then we discovered everything, but we were now involved. It wasn’t an operation for us, for our future. It was for something else. I was treated as a pawn by Napoli for capital gains.”
