Inter boss Inzaghi on Lukaku: “He told me that Chelsea was his dream.”

Inter manager Simone Inzaghi has stated that Romelu Lukaku had informed him of his desire to leave and he made it clear that playing for Chelsea again was his ‘dream’.

Talking in his latest press conference ahead of the Serie A opener against Genoa, Inzaghi was asked about a range of issues. He talked about his relationship with the club’s higher-ups and Inter’s plans in the transfer market.

While talking about Lukaku’s exit, Inzaghi claimed: “Lukaku leaving was unexpected for us. Me, Marotta and Ausilio tried to make him stay, but Lukaku was very honest with us.

“I had him for a week so I saw why the fans loved him and why Chelsea paid a lot for him. He came with great honesty to me and told me that Chelsea was his dream. When a player decides it’s not easy, even though we did our best to keep him. Now, we have to replace this unexpected transfer with a player who will come to the squad.”

Inzaghi also stated that he’s happy with the moves that the club has made so far, confirming that they’re looking to sign another forward.
